JISD was ranked #3 in the United Educator’s Association’s Teacher Turnover Rate report for the 2020-21 school year at only 9.10 percent. The data includes 43 districts from across North Texas and also includes data from the Texas Education Agency’s 2020-21 Texas Academic Performance Report (TAPR).
The finding is even more impressive considering the challenges that teachers have faced the last two years, resulting in a higher than normal exodus of teachers and other school staff. In an effort to keep teachers, JISD offers a starting teacher salary of $57,959; among the highest in the area. The District also offers various supplements for degrees, specialized positions, coaching positions, and more. The JISD Board of Trustees annually approves a raise for staff from the midpoint of their pay scale, and bonuses to hire and keep the best staff, if fiscally able. The District also offers the following employer-paid benefits:
- $300 contributions towards medical insurance
- Telehealth for employees and their entire family
- Hospital Indemnity plans for accidents, illnesses, or unplanned hospitalizations
- Basic Life Insurance
- Employee Assistance Program
- Five days of paid Bereavement Leave up to two occurrences per school year
”Our employees have gone through a trying period of time the last two years,” said Board President Ronnie Galbreath. “We want to reward and keep our staff. They continue to do a great job. We want to keep them here and encourage other teachers to come here.”
